Planetary:
Planetary Name: Kagleech (Kahga-leash).
Environments: Kagleech is partially grassland and partially tropical jungle. There is only one mountain.
Continents: Three, two of which are connected by a land bridge. The connected two (P'raa and Zelkt) are right on the equator, the smaller one (B'vrrp) is just below.
Oceans and Seas: Two oceans, one sea.
Cultural:
Religion: Kut'lari religion is completely based on their world. Every since they figured out it was round, circles have become a religious symbol. While there is no strict religion, the planet is still considered sacred. As such, kut'lari technology is designed in a way that it does not impact the environment much and their cities are small. The biggest cities are those with space ports, and there are no roads.
Customs: Kut'lari are strange. Since their vision is so odd, they will dye their fur in colors that often conflict. Usually these colors are extremely bright, and they are very adept at creating lasting dyes. Kut'lari that are sexually immature do not take part in this ritual. Those that are sexually mature and do not dye their fur are abstinant and are considered to be insane. Abstinant kut'lari are avoided at all costs by others, as if the abstinance were contagious.
Shapes and some specific colors are a big part of their dying ritual. A circle is considered a male fertility symbol since the male must be as reliable as their sun.
They are, by nature, polygamists. Single females will form pair bonds of up to five unrelated individuals, and as a group they will seek out a male. It can take a kut'lari tribe (as they are called before they find a male) up to seven years to find a suitable male, and sometimes they don't find one at all. While they are still a tribe kut'lari are not as territorial and can wander freely in and out of whatever territory they like. Males do not bond at all and will kill another single male if they see one. They are also free to wander through a hive's territory though, since no hive will take a male that kills theirs.
Males are chosen based on both their handsome qualities (sharp brow tines, silkiness of the mane), their personalities, and their strength and ability to provide for their mates. When courting, should any female of the tribe dislike the male, the male is turned away. If he is accepted he becomes their protector and mutual mate.
Kut'lari are very loving families and their kits are communally taken care of. They are usually born in litters of three or four and are very tiny, furless, and blind. Generally the females will have cubs around the same time, so if the mother needs to hunt another female will nurse her kits. Kits are given their youngling names when they are three years old and thus stand a decent chance of survival.
Kut'lari females start to develop their sexual maturity at eleven and stay with their family until they are fifteen as their hormones change. Their communal mothers teach them how to paint themselves during this time, and they take their own adult names. Males are taught to paint themselves and then cast out at fifteen, as they are more disagreeable when they come of age and often they have to be beaten into submission due to their more violent behavior, particularly towards younger siblings.
Languages: Varies by hive, actually. There are countless dialects, though there is at least one unified language in each city.
Historical: Kut'lari history is short and very bloody. Since hives are so territorial and change so frequently there is really no record of a complete organized civilization until they were introduced to space faring technology by accident.
Spartians, when they passed through that part of the galaxy, picked up two kut'lari hives. Eventually they found them too aggressive and set them loose on the next planet, which happened to be P'lodchda. There the hives learned to live with each other and met the akrennians, who by then were working on their own space technology. The two hives were returned to Kagleech, where they spread their knowledge.
Akrennians also sent colonists to the world, and out of curiousity hives began to migrate towards them. Eventually they learned to tolerate one another in close quarters, if not particularly liking each other. Akrennians shared their space faring knowledge and it founded ties between the races that are still very strong today.
More cities began to spring up, though hives were still instinctually territorial and fights were very, very common. Even today, a hundred years later, hives tend to avoid one another if at all possible.
Akrennians and kut'lari tend to go hand in hand, especially in the slave trade. Where there is an akrennian trader, he is usually accompanied by a few kut'lari companions.
Technological: Kut'lari technology is mostly derived from other cultures, however, they are quite adept at creating bondage devices and have a history of designing slave keeping methods superior to those of other species.
